About YLG

Person with hands clasped, wearing a brown sweater, looking at a serene lake surrounded by trees.

A research initiative aiming to explore the intersections of mental health and culture.

YLG was founded to learn how culture, experience, and personal backgrounds impact one’s definition and perspective on mental health.

Raised in a household that blended Japanese and English traditions, YLG founder Seika Brown saw early on how culture shapes our perceptions of mental health. This awareness fuels her passion for bridging cultural gaps in mental health conversations and care.

The project in three goals

I

Research how mental health is defined

II

Share unique stories

III

How will we meet these goals?

The Report

Any findings will be presented in a final report — until then, follow the blog for articles documenting the journey.

“If we can share our story with someone who responds with empathy and understanding, shame can't survive.”
